Katie's Biography
Katie Mahoney was born and raised in Daly City, California located just minutes south of San Francisco. She moved to Southern California to attend Long Beach State University and was a preschool teacher in Orange County for six years before moving to Massachusetts in 2006 to attend Hallmark Institute of Photography.
Katie's love of photography began as a teen when a camera from her great uncle was given to her. Katie's ability to work well with children and her Peter Pan-like qualities come together seamlessly when she is capturing moments that will become timeless and lasting photographs. Truly a child at heart, splashing in the ocean waves, building sand castles, blowing bubbles, catching butterflies, eating fudge sundaes, and going barefoot, Katie can relate to the children she is photographing. She prefers photographing the spontaneous and candid moments, the genuine laughs, animated expressions, and the authentic personalities that shine through.
While honing her photographic skills at Hallmark, one of Katie's images was selected to be included in the design of a national invitation for a Doctors Without Borders benefit. The same image was displayed at the Hallmark Museum of Contemporary Photography. Katie keeps up-to-date on the industry trends by belonging to national photographic associations, such as Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and subscribing to photographic magazines.
